Get Involved!
If you are interested in joining one of the most active sports clubs at Loughborough then come and see us at the Athletic Union Bazaar on the 8th and 9th of October in the Sir David Wallace sports hall. There will be a team of returners around all day to answer your questions and guide you through the process of joining the club.
If you can't come and see us then don't hesitate to email our chairman Ben at b.a.thorpe-09@student.lboro.ac.uk. There will also be a welcome meeting for all new freshers shortly after the bazaar which you will be welcome to attend.
How do I get involved?
Well first you need to join the club (joining details can be found a little further down this page). Once you're a member you will need to complete a swim test which will take place on the 13th of October at the University Pool (dont worry this is a 50m swim wth no time limit and no pressure). As soon as this has been completed you will be welcome to come down to the weekly pool sessions on Tuesday and Thursday, go to polo training on a Monday and take part in the many trips the club organises throughout the year; the first of which is the legendary 'Freshers Trip'.
What else do we do?
The club organises many socials throughout the year and attends the Hey Ewe warm ups. This year socials will be organised by Steve Rees-Clark so you can expect lots of emails from him! We make a strong showing at the Athletic Union ball, and trips such as Dinner Meet are always more on the social than the paddling side!
Weekend trips throughout the year include visits to some of the country's best whitewater. The club always attends the National Student Rodeo, BUCS Whitewater Racing, BUCS Slalom, and organises BUCS Polo.
Most weeks we organise trips to a local whitewater course in Nottingham (HPP). It costs £6.80 to paddle for three hourse, and we ask that those going make contributions towards their driver's fuel.

How do I join?
You can purchase membership on the Student Union's website by following this link www.lufbra.net/clubs/canoe and logging into your account. A standard membership costs £88 which covers use of all club equipment, pool sessions, polo training sessions and insurance. In addition you will also have to pay AU affiliation for the year which is a one off fee of £15, and you only need to pay once no matter how many clubs you join!
We look forward to seeing you in October.
